After going through the grueling process of recovering from an injury related to work and finally being able to return to the job, it may not be the easiest of tasks to jump back in without feeling at least a little weird about the workers compensation claim you filed against your employers.
Unfortunately, situations like this occur on an every day basis and if you are fortunate enough to have your job remain open by the time you are permitted to return to work by your doctor, you may still need to mentally prepare for the actual return. The law does not require employers to hold jobs of those injured during their recovery time but if your employer does just that and you have a job to come back to, it certainly is a step in the right direction.
However, there are some instances where you can return to work and feel like you now have a target on your head. Some employers will be unprofessional in that they harass you for your participation in the compensation claim. By no means is this a fair situation and if it happens to you, you need to consult with our office immediately for help.
In most situations, things eventually will return to normal. On the off chance you fight to get back to work only to find you can't do your job, the return to work can be even more difficult. Your injury due to the negligence of your employer is not your fault and has already happened. There is nothing you can do to reverse the past but you can help yourself towards the future. Before calling it quits, approach your employer about your inability to physically perform your job as usual then request a change in position, at least temporarily while you continue to recover and undergo treatment. Be sure to let our office know what is occurring too to ensure you are protected under your workers compensation rights.
Returning to work can be a difficult time but you can definitely benefit from resuming physical and social activities. Don't let a workers compensation claim make you the target of your employees. Remain proactive about reporting potentially dangerous situations for you and your co-workers and continue to seek the medical treatment required to help you fully recover.
