Falling Back in Time: The Affect of Time Change on Workers

It is almost time to turn the clocks back again. Fall is the season when the temperatures begin to drop and the leave offer a spectacular visual. But it is also a time when the change of time can mess up a worker's internal clock. It can be confusing to the mind to wake up in the dark and come home from work in the dark so it is important to adjust your daily life to the changes to stay safe.

First, it is important to get enough sleep. When we ‘fall back' with our time, we do gain an hour's time but it is important to remain on a sleep schedule to ensure you are getting enough sleep each night. It will take your internal clock some time to get used to the time change but remain on a good sleep schedule and get the 8 or more hours you need to function well at work.

Secondly, the time change can be a hazard to drivers on the road when dusk comes during the rush hour traffic times. Be sure that you have the company vehicle checked for mechanical issues and to ensure the headlights and signals work properly. Most workers will be commuting during a dangerous time of the day, just as the sun is setting. This makes it difficult for drivers to see each other and pedestrians. Be sure to turn on your lights and pay close attention during your daily commute as it begins to get dark at an earlier time.

If you have been injured on the job or hurt in a vehicle accident during work hours, it is important to ensure your medical treatment costs are covered by the responsible party. Contact our office toll free at 866-205-2415 to schedule a free consultation.
