Fatalities on Construction Sites Can Be Incredibly Cruel

The story about the 82 year old New York man who was killed last week on a construction site was particularly cruel due to the man's age and the fact he was still working hard at the age where most people have gone into retirement. John Hanson was killed on-site when he was hit by construction heavy equipment and then run over by the same vehicle.

This is just another incident highlighting the importance of safety measures on a construction job site. While not many details have been released about the Hanson case, there have been many other reported fatalities all over the country when victims have been hit and killed by heavy equipment operators who could not see them from the location in the driver's seat.

Training is very important as is certification for all those operating heavy equipment vehicles around a work site. In some cases, accidents occur because inexperienced and unqualified drivers are found to be operating vehicles they are not equipped to handle. As a result, people on a job site get hurt and killed when a driver loses control or simple is not ready to handle the responsibilities that go along with the vehicle operation.

Workers not operating vehicles need to be equally trained to be proactive and cautious around equipment while still doing their construction jobs. For this reason, safety courses and proper training programs should be implemented regularly to new hires and long-term, experienced workers alike.

If you have been injured in a construction site accident or a loved one has died from injuries resulting from an on the job accident, it is imperative to speak with an attorney who can protect your rights and fight for your worker compensation or wrongful death claim.
