How false claims are slowing down your Social Security Disability claim

If you’ve filed a Social Security Disability claim, then you know how long the process can take – and that appeals, which are often necessary, add even more time.  You may think that this is because the agency is understaffed and there are just too many injured or ill people who need help.  Well, unfortunately it isn’t that simple.

One of the reasons claims are getting bogged down at SSA is that some insurance companies are requiring that workers who don’t qualify for SSD benefits file a claim with the agency anyway.  If they don’t these insurance companies are denying them the benefits they deserve.  In addition, if they are turned down for SSD benefits – and many are, as they aren’t eligible in the first place – they are forced by the company to file an appeal.  Again, they risk losing their insurance money if they don’t.

Fortunately, this gross abuse of the system has been noticed and the Senate Finance Committee is investigating the claims processing practices of nine insurance companies.  With average claims wait times that have grown from 258 days to 512 days, American workers need this issue resolved as soon as possible.

You can read more about this shocking investigation in our law library article, “Insurance Companies Commit Social Security Disability Fraud”.
