There has been a long running joke between men and women about headaches preventing any work getting done so to speak. But when it comes to headaches, there really isn’t much to laugh about.
We all get headaches from time to time – during a cold or after a long day at work. Those minor types of headaches are common and typically can be avoided by making lifestyle or diet change and
reducing stress. The more serious headaches are something that should not be dealt with on your own. If you experience throbbing, painful, pounding headaches that are making you call off work rather often you should already have an appointment with your doctor.
While many headaches are treatable and you can live a normal life even if you don’t feel that great, migraines and cluster headaches can be debilitating to the point where you cannot function and are not fit to go into work at the risk of hurting yourself or other co-workers on the job.
Chronic headaches diagnosed and treated by a doctor may allow you to collect Social Security disability benefits if you can no longer work.
Benefits are not for those that get the occasionally bad headache but for chronic sufferers that have to call in sick on a monthly basis, you are not only endangering your health, you are jeopardizing your job. Missing work rules differ by employer but most will not appreciate your absence on an extended basis without a physician’s excuse.
If you are experiencing frequent and debilitating headaches, it is important to get a medical advice. If you plan to file for disability benefits or have had a disability claim denied already, contact our office toll free at 888-799-3918 to discuss your case.
