Social Security Administration Puts Finishing Touches on Ticket to Work Program

The Social Security Administration has made a few final rules changes to the Ticket to Work program.  The Ticket to Work program is designed to assist injured people who are on Social Security Disability Benefits in getting the skills, training, and support that they need to get back to work.  The program has been in effect since 2002 and is now in its final form.  To check out our primer on the Ticket to Work Program, click here.

Expanded Eligibility.  Eligibility for the Ticket to Work program has been expanded to include beneficiaries who are expected to improve from their current condition.  Under the old rules, only those who were permanently disabled were eligible.

Increased Incentive for Employment Networks.  Under the new rules, the Employment Networks are receiving greater financial incentives to participate in the program.  The Employment Networks are state or private entities that take responsibility for providing job training.  This service is provided cost-free to Social Security Beneficiaries.

A More Effective System.  The new rules provide a better alignment of the Ticket to Work Program with other return to work programs – like the Work Incentives Planning and Assistance Program, the Protection and Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security Program, and other Social Security work incentive programs.
