Your Medical Conditions May Be Covered Under the Zadroga Act

September 11, 2001 is a day that is ingrained into the mind of every American. We all remember where we were, what we were doing and how we felt at that tragic moment. But the feelings and emotions of those who were 9/11 first responders and survivors are incomparable to those who were watching the attack on their home television sets. Many people who were responders and survivors not only carry the anguish of what they saw, felt and experienced at the WTC site, but have also sustained serious medical ailments due to their exposure to airborne toxins and other hazards.

With the passing of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, $4.3 billion is now available to cover health benefits and financial compensation for clean up workers, first responders, and other survivors who were harmed by the WTC attacks on September 11. The Zadroga Act will help those eligible persons who have suffered medical ailments such as:

Aerodigestive Disorders, including:
  • Interstitial lung diseases
  • Chronic respiratory disorder
  • Asthma
  • Reactive airways dysfunction syndrome (RADS)
  • WTC-exacerbated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Chronic cough syndrome
  • Upper airway hyperreactivity
  • Chronic rhinosinusitis
  • Chronic nasopharyngitis
  • Chronic laryngitis
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD)
  • Sleep apnea

Mental Health Conditions, including:
  • Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Major depressive disorder
  • Panic disorder
  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Anxiety disorder (not otherwise specified)
  • Depression (not otherwise specified)
  • Acute stress disorder
  • Dysthymic disorder
  • Adjustment disorder
  • Substance abuse

Musculoskeletal Disorders, including:
  • Low back pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Other musculoskeletal disorders

Cancers, as well as other unlisted ailments, require the victim to make an appeal and present a compelling claim.

If you or someone you love is a 9/11 first responder or clean up worker, you may be entitled to compensation under the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. Contact Markhoff & Mittman to schedule a free consultation with a New York Zadroga Act lawyer today.
