Q: WHAT IS SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY?
A: Simple - if you become disabled before your full retirement age you can receive a disability benefit after six months if:
- you have enough credits from earnings (this depends on your age and means that you have to have earned six to twenty of your credits in the three to ten years before you became disabled); and
- you have a physical or mental impairment (or impairments) that is expected to prevent you from doing "substantial gainful" work for a year or more or result in death.
Difficult - actually getting approved. You should consider contacting a knowledgeable representative who can assist you in pursuing your claim.
