Cortlandt Manor, New York is a town in the northwestern corner of Westchester County surrounding the villages of Croton-on-Hudson and Buchanan, and the hamlets of Montrose, Crugers, and Verplank. The name Cortlandt Manor was created by the United States Post Office to differentiate the town from Cortland, New York. The Van Cortlandt family, whose estate was located in present day Croton-on-Hudson, was the namesake of the town name and town nickname. The Van Cortlandts had two New York City mayors in the family, as well as being the patroon of the land.
