Millwood, New York is a hamlet in New Castle, New York. The hamlet was originally called Sarlesville, and is comprised of the area that was Marritt's Corners and Rockdale Mills in the 19th century. Millwood was the home of a historic train station of the New York and Putnam Railroad, built in 1888, but the station was destroyed in a fire. Out of this unfortunate incident came the Millwood Volunteer Fire Department, a coalition of Millwood citizens who volunteered to meet the need for a fire company closer to home than that of larger New Castle.
