The town of New Castle, New York is within Westchester County and includes the hamlets of Millwood and Chappaqua. The territory of New Castle was first purchased by Caleb Heathcote in 1696 from Native Americans. Many Quakers began settling the area beginning in the 1730s. The town played an integral role in supporting the American Revolution when the Quaker House in town hosted wounded soldiers of George Washington's Army. Presidential candidate Horace Greeley began purchasing land in New Castle in the 1850s.
