Albertson, New York is a hamlet located in Long Island in Nassau County in the town of North Hempstead. The hamlet's first known settler was John Seren of Connecticut in 1644, but it was named for inhabitant Townsend Albertson, who established a farm in the community and made it his home. Albertson is the home to the 12 acre Clark Botanical Garden, which was originally the estate of Grenville Clark, an advisor to Franklin D. Roosevelt during his presidency. Albertson was also the location of the Supreme Court case of Engel v. Vitale in 1962, which ruled that the recitement of prayers in public schools was unconstitutional.
