The village of Dobbs Ferry, New York, part of the town of Greenburgh, New York, was named after the ferry service that crossed the Hudson River during colonial times. The land that is present-day Dobbs Ferry was once the encampment for George Washington and his troops in the summer of 1781, the last year of the Revolutionary War. After recieving crucial information from their French allies while camped near Dobbs Ferry, Washington devised the strategy that would lead the American troops to Virginia and to victory!
