The town of Eastchester, New York was home to one of New York's most famous historical figures, Anne Hutchinson. Besides being the namesake for the Hutchinson River Parkway, Anne was a pioneer of religious tolerance in colonial America as well as an example of a strong, independent woman. Eastchester was also the home of the Eastchester Covenant of 1665, which established laws for the region and was one of the few documents like this in both the region and the time period. Eastchester was primarily a farming town but industry began to flourish in the region with the arrival of the railroad in the 17th century.
