Living anywhere in New York, there are many resources for transportation available to accommodate wheelchairs and other disabled individual's needs. From public transportation to private shuttles and drivers, there are options for transportation around New York City and within the state in general.

Subways, NYCT Bus, MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), MTA Metro-North Railroad (MNR) for New York State
Half price fares all around for those with medical proof of disabilities. Patrons can contact the ticket offices of each of the public transportation companies to learn more about getting the discounted rate prior to purchasing tickets or monthly passes.
Amtrack/Greyhound
For those planning trips out of the area, both Amtrack and Greyhound offer discounted fares and can accommodate disabled individual's travel needs for short trips in-state or longer hauls outside of New York.
Hotels/Motels/B & B's
A large number of hotels advertise their accessibility for disabled locals and travelers. In addition to the amenities for disabled patrons, many hotels and other lodging houses will offer a nice discount on their stay rates. Call ahead to the reservation number prior to reserving a room to discuss possible reduced fees for disabled individuals. Not all places will advertise discounted rates directly so be sure to ask upfront.
JFK Airport Parking
For those planning a trip outside of the state, the airport parking lot at JFK airport offers reduced pricing for disabled individuals who have the right credentials proving a disability.
National State Parks/Camping Facilities
If you need to get out and about during the beautiful summer months, the National State Parks in New York and across the country offer discounts on entrance fees. Many of the state camping facilities also are handicapped-accessible and have reduced prices for medically disabled individuals.
