Three Quick Tips for a Successful Social Security Disability Claim
If you have dealt with the Social Security Administration about a disability claim, then you know just how challenging it can be to get the benefits you need and deserve. A shocking number of applications for disability are denied the first time around, meaning that you either have to give up or appeal. Entering into the appeals process will delay your application even longer, leaving you without the benefits you so desperately need.
Why go through the stress of an appeal if you can get your application right the first time? If you or someone you love is unable to work because of a physical or mental disability, then consider the tips below when you are preparing your application.
Three tips for a successful Social Security disability claim application
- Understand what disabilities are covered by the SSA. It is very important that you “do your homework” and make sure that your particular disability and situation is covered by SSA disability insurance. You can go right to the Social Security Administration website to read about their disability claims process, or you can contact a knowledgeable attorney for help.
- Prove that you have a covered disability. Just you knowing that you should be covered isn’t enough to receive benefits. Make sure you have all the documentation required to prove to the SSA that you need and deserve benefits. Your doctor can provide you with written documentation proving that you are disabled, and you can also get help from a SSA disability lawyer.
- Double check that the SSA definition of your disability matches the description in your doctor’s notes. This doesn’t seem to be a big deal, but when it comes to disability claims applications, details matter. You want to be 100% sure that the way your disability is described by your doctor exactly matches the type of disability covered by the SSA.
