Six most common on-the-job injuries suffered by workers

There are a variety of ways that workers in New York can be injured. If you are a construction worker, you could be injured in a crane accident or in a fall. If you work in manufacturing, you could be hurt by long-term exposure to a hazardous substance, or you could lose your hearing if you are exposed to loud sounds without adequate ear protection. The list goes on.

There are some common ways that workers are injured, and the list below covers the top six most common.

  1. Caught in something, under something, or between something. These type of injures happen when a part of a worker’s body is squeezed, pinched, or crushed in a piece of machinery.
  2. Falling from a high place. These injuries happen when a worker falls from a high place to a lower elevation. For example, workers can fall from the upper floor of a building under construction, from a ladder, a roof, or any other elevated surface.
  3. Same-level fall. Sometimes workers can trip or slip on a flat surface and fall down. Typically these types of falls don’t result in as serious injuries as a fall from a high place, but they can still incapacitate a worker.
  4. Struck by an object. Workers can be injured when part of their body is hit by a moving object or if they collide with a stationary object.
  5. Motor vehicle crashes. Some jobs require that workers use a truck, car, van, motorcycle, or other vehicle to move goods or to get around. These workers can be injured in a traffic accident while performing company work.
  6. Musculoskeletal injuries. Injuries to the muscles, tendons, or bones in a worker’s legs, knees, ankles, feet, arms, back, or neck can be debilitating. Workers can pull a muscle while lifting heavy goods, they can be hurt by tasks that require repetitive motion, strong vibrations can cause injury, or they can injure themselves while kneeling or squatting.
