NY Workers Compensations New Medical Treatment Guidelines - the Shoulder
New York Workers Compensation Board's New Medical TREATMENT guidelines - the Shoulder
The NYS Workers Compensation Board has recently adopted new "Treatment" guidelines to help implement the 2007 Workers Compensation reforms. These are "front end" guidelines that attempt to guide medical practitioners in how to assess and treat injured workers. This is premised on supposedly leveling the playing field and avoiding unnecessary delays usually imposed by insurance companies insisiting on approving every step in a treatment process, something that can certainly delay the process.
This becomes even more relevant since shoulder injuries are so prevelant among injured workers and most people who hurt their shoulder instantly think rotator cuff tear or some other shoulder problem.
The New Guidelines for the Shoulder address the ten most common work-related injuries/syndromes/disorders to or involving the shoudler complex:
The guidelines clear state how History Taking and Physical Examinations should be conducted, as well as the specific diagnosis, testing and treatment procedures that should be undertaken. There are also sections about medications and non-operative procedures.
