Old Man Winter Sends Workers On A Trip

When the weather outside gets frightful, many workers wish they could be somewhere more delightful. As much of the country continues to weather through a deep freeze this winter, employees who have to be out and about in harsh conditions are vulnerable to accidents. Most often, winter weather results in slip and fall incidents, however when the mercury drops, there are other issues with which to content.

Snow and ice make getting around difficult, whether you are on foot or driving in a vehicle. The cold weather can wreak havoc on the surface of roads and sidewalks, resulting in cracks and potholes that can easily trip a person resulting in injury. Livery drivers, salespeople and delivery drivers are at an increased risk of injury due to the nature of their work. Where many jobs allow for employees to be warm and safe inside a building protected from the elements, other occupations require a person to be outside; often in dangerous conditions.

It is extremely important for any worker who has to brave the elements to be aware of the ground beneath their feet. A pothole or crack in the sidewalk can be very dangerous. When driving in a car, it can cause damage or even an accident. When getting in and out of taxis, delivery vehicles or any other situation which requires getting around on foot, one wrong step and your can find yourself facing a serious injury.

When this occurs it is often difficult to determine who is to "blame" or more specifically who will pay for your medical expenses and lost wages. The New York "pothole law" makes it difficult to receive compensation from the city, however if the incident occurred while you are working, you may be eligible for workers compensation benefits. Talk to an experienced workers compensation lawyer to learn if your injury is covered by this insurance.
