The village of Pleasantville, New York is located approximately 30 miles north of New York City in Westchester County. In 1695, Frederick Phillipse moved to the Dutch colonies and founded his manor in Pleasantville and the neighboring towns. Pleasantville was incorporated as a village in 1897, when it was a well-established village with its own newspaper, "The Pleasantville Pioneer," a police department and library system. Pleasantville became the original location of the headquarters for Reader's Digest in 1922, and although the headquarters was moved to nearby Chappaqua in 1939, they maintain the postal office box in Pleasantville.
