Somers, New York Disability Attorney

The town of Somers, New York was originally inhabited by the Kitchawank Native Americans of the Mohegan tribe, and was later deeded to Stephanus Van Cortlandt by King William III of England in the late seventeenth century. In 1808 the village of Stephentown, which is now the area of Somers, was changed to Somers to pay tribute to a young boy who had lost his life in the war. Somers claim to fame is that it was the first home of the American circus. Hachaliah Bailey brought the first elephant to the United States, whom he fondly called "Old Bet." Somers includes five villages: Baldwin Place, Granite Springs, Lincolndale, Purdys and Shenorock.
