Disabled Children & How You Can Get Benefits For Them

Disabled children suffering from a physical or mental disability that severely limits his or her activities might entitled to Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The child must be disabled and they must also have little or no income and resources. This second requirement refers to the members in the household, such as the parents, since most children under the age of 18 presumably have little or no work history.

The mental or physical disability must be documented through medical evidence and it must have lasted, or be expected to last, at least 1 year or result in death. For children who are found disabled and eligible for SSI may also be entitled to Medicaid, which will enable to child to continue treating with their doctors.
