In Syracuse, NY, an accountant for a local cab company admitted his guilt in a workers compensation case that provided the family of a murdered taxi driver to receive death benefits they should not have received. The accountant, Vincent Kukys, pleased guilty in court to first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and for workers' compensation fraud.
The Accountant's Role in Workers Compensation Fraud
The accountant provided false records and a false testimony to the Insurance Fund and workers' compensation board that indicated 29 year old Timothy Gordon was employed by Century Transportation & Taxi when he was in fact an employee of Yellow Taxi Co. when he was murdered in January of 2009.
Yellow Taxi did not have workers' compensation insurance. Century Transportation & Taxi had insurance, and when the accountant submitted false paperwork and testimony, Timothy Gordon's family received workers' compensation benefits they were not entitled to.
Vincent Kukys will be put on probation in October.
Workers' Compensation Fraud
