Appeals Court Upholds Workers' Comp Insurance for Truck Driver in Iraq

The Defense Base Act, a workers' comp program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, made it possible for truck driver, Jesse Barrios,  to receive workers' compensation benefits for an eye condition that was likely worsened by his employment in Iraq. Mr. Barrios' employer was also ordered to pay his medical bills.  Established in 1941, the primary goal of the Defense Base Act was to cover workers on military bases outside the United States.
