As reported in yesteday's New York Times, by Steven Greenhouse, Robert E. Beloten has been named Chairman of the New York Workers' Compensation Board.  Beloten replaces Zachary Weiss who resigned to become a judge in the Social Security system.

Robert E. Beloten served as a workers’ compensation judge from 1988 to 1996 and from 2000 until he became a commissioner.   He was an assistant counsel for the New York State Racing and Wagering Board from 1985-1988 and he worked for a law firm on Long Island from 1996- 2000.  He has lectured extensively on workers’ compensation and medical law.  Upon appointment of his new position, Mr. Beloten commented, “This is an opportunity where you can really touch people and their lives........"

Brian Mittman, Senior Partner of Markhoff & Mittman and Co-Chairman of the Workers Compensation Alliance (WCA) commented,   " I look forward to working with soon to be Chiarman Beloten as both a practicioner and representative of injured workers througout New York.  I believe we will be able to continue the productive dialogue that the WCA established with outgoing chair Weiss and fulfill the promise of workers' compensation, to protect injured workers and their families from the extreme hardships incurred from work related industrial accidents and illnesses.
