Crane Strikes Building in NYC - NO Worker Injuries Reported

Posted on Apr 02, 2010

Another crane accident in NYC - this time a crane struck a 25-story building near Wall Street.  The crane operator, Christopher Cosban, had his license suspended as it was found that he hadn't secured the crane properly.  While a final determination on the cause of the accident still has to be determined, it appears the improper position of the crane was a contributing factor in this accident.

Luckily there were no worker injuries nor was anyone in the surrounding area injured.  Traffic was diverted, streets were closed and the building that was hit plus three others was evacuated.

New York has seen more than its' share of  crane accidents the last few years.  The city's former chief crane inspector, James Delayo, was arrested after the second of two huge cranes collapsed killing nine people in 2008.
