Current Backlog Of Disability Cases Plummets

Posted on Mar 08, 2010

Michael J. Astrue, Commissioner of The Social Security Administration, announced on March 2, 2010 that his agency has effectively reduced the current backlog of disability cases to under 700,000, a feat that hasn't been reached since 2005. Astrue attributed the successful decrease in cases to the Administration's recent hiring of additional Administrative Law Judges as well as the opening of National Hearing Centers throughout the country.

Astrue also announced that the national processing time for disability claims has gone down 72 days. For a full version of Social Security's press release on this topic, click here.
