DOT Veteran Hit, Killed in Truck Accident on Queens Construction Site

An 18-year veteran of the Department of Transportation was killed in a work-related accident in Queens on May 16, 2011. Errol Wilson, 59, was killed when he was run over by a Mack Truck driven by a co-worker. Wilson was directing the truck from the ground on a construction site near Northern Boulevard. The driver, Lloyd Daley, apparently was unable to see Wilson in the rearview mirror. The police say Daley was sober and was not charged with a crime in the accident.

Valerie Wilson, Wilson's widow, received a call from Mayor Bloomberg. The mayor extended his condolences to the family. Wilson's son, Errol Wilson Jr., described his father as a man who "just loved the work he was doing." Wilson had received many awards and certificates over his 18 years with the Department of Transportation Roadway Repair and Maintenance Division, including one for "extraordinary effort in the aftermath of the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001."

Janette Sadik-Khan, Department of Transportation Commissioner, said that Wilson was "one of our best workers and a member of the DOT family."
