A Ballston Spa man has been arrested for allegedly collecting workers’ compensation benefits while working as a drywall installer. Michael R. Waldron, 39, had claimed that an injury prevented him from working, which allowed him to collect workers’ compensation benefits for lost wages.
Waldron took in $2,450 in benefits before the fraud was discovered, according to New York State Insurance Department Officials. He was accused of filing documents with the Insurance Fund stating that he was not working, when in fact he was employed doing drywall work. As a result, he was charged with insurance fraud and workers’ compensation fraud.
An investigator conducted by the Insurance Department’s Frauds Bureau and the New York State Insurance Fund led to the discovery of Waldron’s crime. He was arrested by State Police, released pending a hearing, and could face up to one year in prison.
