On December 16, 2010, experts in the workers compensation industry met to discuss past and current trends. In an online conference which featured a variety of speakers and sessions, experts discussed what issues are of utmost importance in the workers compensation industry.
As reported on BusinessInsurance.com, "Trends in workers compensation insurance will continue to frustrate insurers in 2011, but growth in certain industries can offset deteriorating results, Robert P. Hartwig, an economist and president of the Insurance Information Institute Inc. in New York, said during a keynote presentation at the conference."
Considering the fact that workers compensation premiums are determined largely on employee payroll, the struggling economy has had a significant impact within the industry. With more people out of work, the labor force has been greatly reduced. The anticipated upswing in the economy and return of a greater workforce can only be viewed in a positive light within the industry.
Other topics covered discussed include; mergers and acquisitions, fraud and illegal immigration. As indicated by the number of hot topics up for discussion, the new year will bring with it opportunities to address serious issues within the workers compensation industry. Any progress in a positive direction would be well received by all parties involved. Injured workers, employers, insurance companies all stand to benefit by improvements within the workers compensation system. Until such improvements are made, workers compensation attorneys continue to stand up for the rights of injured workers, to ensure they are not further victimized by the system.
