A former Manhattan cab driver admitted to not taking his medication for epilepsy prior to an accident that killed one student and injured three other passengers in the taxi. The driver, Hassan Afzal, pleaded gulity as part of a deal that will keep him out of jail.
Afzal admitted that he stopped taking his medications which is why he suffered from a seizure just before the cab he was working crashed killing, Danielle Ricco, a 20-year-old student who was a passenger. Her dad doesn't yet know what he is going to say but he does plan on speaking at the hearing later this month. At the time of the accident his daughter was getting ready to begin her internship with the Walt Disney Company which had been her dream.
This accident happened four years ago. The admission came earlier this week during a State Supreme Court hearing. Afzal also admitted to filing false records and withholding information about his seizures on applications for his driver’s and hack license. His licenses have been revoked.
