When Portia Walton decided to take in a Yankee game, she could not have predicted what was going to happen next. Who would have imagined a trip to Yankee Stadium would result in another trip; this one to the hospital.
The New York Post reported on this story describing how Walton found herself injured on a simple day out at the ballpark. As stated by the New York Post, "A Brooklyn woman says she got the shock of her life at Yankee Stadium when she stepped on a metal plate and was jolted by so much electricity, she had to be hospitalized".
How could something like this happen? The incident which occurred at the Stadium's Hard Rock Cafe has sparked a $2 million suit against both the Yankees and the Hard Rock according to the New York Post. It is reported that Walton has hired attorneys Matthew Blit and Les Levine to represent her in the lawsuit.
According to hospital records, the Flatbush woman was taken first to the Stadiums' first aid station and then treated at the Lincoln Hospital emergency room.
Walton told the Post, "I felt tingling on my ankles. I was saying, 'Oh my God! Oh my God!'" The incident happened while Walton was in an outdoor dining area outside the Hard Rock Cafe when she placed her foot on a metal hatch which had a power cord sticking out. The purpose of the power cord was to provide electricity to lights in a nearby tent. Walton has described the event as first feeling electricity followed by a crackling similar to that of an electric transformer. It was at that point, guards from the stadium rushed to her aid.
It is reported that Walton is still suffering from memory loss, headaches, post-traumatic stress disorder and tingling.
