Governor Paterson signed a new law which will allow independent cab drivers in to gain workers' compensation benefits as of January 1, 2010. New York City as well as Westchester and Nassau counties now have clear rules to determine when livery drivers are employees or independent contractors of livery companies. The new state law benefits independent drivers by creating a fund that will help provide workers' compensation benefits to them and their families in case of injury or death. Read full article.
