Injured Construction Worker Saved by Safety Helmet

A construction worker hit in the head by a piece of concrete has been discharged from Strong Memorial Hospital. The employee of Manning, Squires, Henning Co Inc, was working at the Wilmot Cancer Center when the accident occurred.
According to reports, the workers was standing three stories up on scaffolding trying to secure a pre-cast concrete slab to a façade when the concrete slab fell about two feet and hit him. The construction worker was knocked down but did not become unconscious. He also was able to remain on the scaffold and was later brought through a building window for transport to the hospital.
Officials noted the worker was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the accident and was reportedly examined at the hospital for a possible back injury. Neighbors close to the scene said they heard the injured worker screaming. Emergency vehicles and security from the hospital responded to the situation. The unnamed worker was strapped to a stretcher and witnesses say it appeared the man was fitted with a neck brace before being taken out through the window of the Cancer Center.
The accident occurred around 1pm and the hospital announced the worker had been discharged from the emergency department about 5pm that day. No word on the injuries sustained by the worker or if he was able to return to the job.
