New Paltz NY Police Officer Indicted for Workers Compensation Fraud

A grand jury in Ulster County, NY has indicted a police officer on chargers of workers compensation fraud. Officer Camille Bishop, resident of Saugerties NY, was alleged to be guilty of filing false reports about a back injury she received on the job.

Bishop, age 39, was accused of several crimes including workers compensation fraud, grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, residential mortgage fraud, first-degree perjury, and offering a false instrument for filing.

Bishop was apparently caught trying to file false claims concerning a bank injury while applying for a home equity loan. She was also charged with misrepresenting her income for the purposes of obtaining the loan. The prosecutors on the case have alleged that Bishop's participation in the workers compensation fraud was for benefits in excess of $50,000. The police officer was not on active duty at the time she filed the false claims.

Bishop turned herself over to authorities and was arraigned in Ulster County. She was a police officer in Ellenville from early 2000 until 2005. Representatives from the New York State Workers Compensation Board as well as the Fraud Bureau of the New York State Insurance Department assisted with the investigation. All of the charges on Bishop are felonies except for the mortgage fraud which is classified as a misdemeanor.
