NY Man Admits to Lying to Receive Workers' Comp Funds

Posted on Apr 27, 2010

Another case of workers' comp fraud - we seem to be reading alot about this!  This time Richard Scepkowski, from Schenectady, NY, admitted to workers comp fraud.  Scepkowski had been receiving workers' comp benefits for an injury he sustained as a safety technician at the Albany International Airport.  To receive the benefits he completed paperwork indicating he was not employed and didn't have any involvement or ownership if any other business.  However, it was uncovered that he was employed and involved in an auto repair business which he ended up acquiring.
Scepkowski faces a maximum sentence of up to five years in federal prison, a $250,000. fine or both as well as three years of probation following the completing of any prison sentence.  He is due back in court for sentencing this September.
