NYC and Contractors Appeal 9/11 Settlement Ruling

NYC and a group of construction contractors who handled the cleanup of the World Trade Center site after the Sept. 11th attacks are appealing a judge's decision to block a $575 million settlement of claims by thousands of workers who fell ill - either during rescue efforts or debris removal following the incident.

They are demanding changes in the settlement, including adding millions of dollars more for sick workers and reducing costs of their legal fees. The judge said he had a moral obligation to the 9/11 workers which included injured workers, who include firefighters, police and others who worked at Ground Zero. City Attorney, James Tyrell, expressed concern that the appeal is delaying compensation for the many workers who are anxiously awaiting their settlements. What's your take?

The settlement was announced last month by lawyers representing nearly 10,000 people who had worked to clean up the site where the twin 110-story towers collapsed.
