Port Chester Tree Service Worker Seriously Injured In Stump Grinder

A Port Chester, New York tree service worker sustained life threatening injuries after his arms and a leg became entangled in a mechanical stump grinder.
 
The New York workplace injuryt occurred on Friday, March 18, 2011.  The man was one of four tree service workers who were removing tree stumps at a North Street home in Port Chester.  He became caught in a large mechanical stump grinder, a power tool that removes tree stumps using a disk-shaped rotating blade that chips away the wood.  After the man was caught, another worker turned off the stump grinder and freed the injured man.
 
Police, paramedics and firefighters responded to the accident.  The man was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
 
The injury is under investigation by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and is being treated as a workplace accident.
 
The identity of the injured man has not been released.
