Social Security Disability Income Recipients to get Stimulus Checks

Posted on Mar 09, 2009

By signing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, President Obama ensured that individuals receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security benefits – including SSDI – will receive a one-time payment of $250.

The payments are expected to be sent out in late May 2009, and Social Security beneficiaries do not need to take any action in order to receive their check.  The money, dubbed an “economic recovery payment”, will be sent to each individual the same way they receive their SSA benefit money.

To receive a payment, the beneficiary’s address of record must be in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, or the Northern Mariana Islands.  The money will arrive as a separate payment, and will not be a part of the recipient’s usual check.

About 55 million Americans receiving Social Security benefits are expected to receive $250 checks.
