Trial Starts for Ex-Police Officer Who Shoved Bicyclist

Posted on Apr 20, 2010

It's springtime.  Bicyclists are out and about.  Motorists must be careful as cyclists crowd the streets -- the last thing anyone wants is an unfortunate accident.  Was that what happened one evening two summers ago in the Times Square area of NY?

Patrick Pogan, a former police officer -- who had only been on the job for 11 days -- is charged with shoving a bicyclist to the ground which resulted in a violent collision and confrontation between the police officer and a group of bike riders called Critical Mass.  Will we ever know what really happened?  Was the cyclist, Christopher Long, at fault for riding erratically?  Or, was the rookie police officer simply follow instructions he'd been given to stop large groups of cyclists from overtaking the road causing traffic congestion and possible road accidents?  Stay-tuned to NY newspapers which will certainly be keeping us up-to-date as the trial continues.
