White Plains Social Worker in Critical Condition After Client Confrontation

Posted on Jan 24, 2011

Last Wednesday, a New York social worker was the victim of multiple stab wounds after visiting a client in White Plains. NY social worker Frances Mortenson was conducting an in-house client visit in the Westchester County home when the attack occurred. Mortenson is employed at St. Vincent's Hospital Center in Harrison.

Jamile Wilson, a 26 year old client of Mortenson allegedly engaged in an argument with his social worker and had a knife on him. According to the White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong, Wilson was the one to call 911 about 11 am Wednesday morning to report the stabbing. Other reports were made to police that reported loud noises and screaming coming from the Lexington Hills apartment complex. Police tried to keep Wilson on the line to calm him down so he would put down the knife. When police arrived at the apartment, Wilson opened the door and put up his hand, following officers instructions. He was taken in to custody without further incident.

Wilson has been charged with second-degree attempted murder. No word on whether Wilson has retained an attorney. Mortenson was rushed to Westchester Medical Center where she was listed in critical but stable condition. When police responded to the scene, they found Mortenson in a bedroom, with severe bleeding from stab wounds. She underwent surgery on Wednesday to treat the multiple stab wounds inflicted by Wilson.

The incident is still being actively investigated by police.
