As reported by Stephen Greenhouse for the New York Times, Public health experts worried about the spread of the swine flu are raising concerns that workers who deal with the public, like waiters and child care employees, are jeopardizing others by reporting to work sick because they do not get paid for days they miss for illness and countless others are spreading the disease as they are reporting to work ill afraid of losing their jobs if they do not have sick time. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 39 percent of private-sector workers do not receive paid sick leave.
