Woman Arrested For New York Workers Compensation Fraud

A woman was arrested after filing a claim for $42,000 in New York Worker's Compensation payments for a fake injury.

Utah resident, Kelly Woods, 23, was extradited to Albany for falsely attributing a fake condition to a workplace injury in order to collect compensation from New York State. According to Albany County officials, Woods told doctors and the Workers Compensation Board that she suffered from permanent fixed torticollis. She claimed that the condition forced her to keep her head at a 90 degree angle at all times and that the injury was caused by a workplace accident in Colonie. Woods was trying to obtain more than $316,000 in a lump sum payment from the New York State Insurance Fund.

However, Woods was captured on video camera moving her head and neck freely. She was charged with second-degree insurance fraud, third degree grand larceny, and a felony count of Worker's Compensation Fraud. She faces a possible five to 15 years in prison if convicted of these charges.

Woods moved to Utah when she found out she was going to be charged.
