Worker Accused of Disability Fraud after Embezzlement Conviction

Aprile Hafner-Milazzo, of Stonecrest Court, was accused of Social Security disability fraud on Monday, April 18, 2011. The charges came just two months after she pleaded guilty to embezzlement. Although she is still awaiting sentencing, she is expected to serve three to six years in prison for the original charges.

Hafner-Milazzo was employed as a consultant with Clemente Brothers' Construction Corporation in Richmond Valley. She was responsible for preparing checks and keeping financial records. However, according to the Staten Island district attorney's office, she wrote checks to herself and increased the amount of her own paychecks. This activity amounted to more than $485,000. She pleaded guilty to first-degree grand larceny in February.

These new accusations allege that Hafner-Milazzo also collected $50,000 in Social Security disability benefits while working with Clemente Brothers' Construction Corporation. She was working with the company at the same time that she claimed she was "totally disabled and unable to work."

Hafner-Milazzo's attorney said they have been expecting the charges.
