A world of Hurt, a Video from the New York Times

WHY INDEPENDNET MEDICAL EXAMS ARE NOT INDEPENDENT, NOR MEDICAL! (More Info)

The New York Times has run an indepth analysis of New Yorks Workers Compensation System. It could almost be called the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Well, as a practitioner in this area for over fifteen years one of the ugliest aspects of the system has always been the alleged independent medical exams that insurance carriers conduct to attempt (often successfully) to suspend or reduce monetary and medical payments to injured workers.

As part of their investigative report, the NY Times created an interesting series of videos. This particular vide (A World of Hurt by Jigar Metha, Christopher Flavelle and N.R. Kleinfield) exposes the try dirty underside of the IME.

In this video the IME Doctor, Dr. Samuels, clearly admits not writing reports, shrugging off the discrepency between the video of his exam and the written report and showing a clear callous disregard for injured workers.
